There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through pool water. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs spas should inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19. Appropriate care should be taken, both in and outside the pool, to protect yourself and others (WorksafeBC).
COVID-19 can be spread via air molecules and on surfaces around the pool.
To this effect, BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA has the following covid-19 safety procedures in place, including but not limited to:

To this effect, BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA has the following covid-19 safety procedures in place, including but not limited to:
- Mandatory monitoring of exposure and flu-like symptoms by participants and instructors.
- Groups are limited to 5 people maximum, and dependent on the size of the pool, to accommodate physical distancing.
- Instructors are required to wear PPE: protective face shields and masks when appropriate during instruction time.
- Physical distancing is required when removing PPE, during instruction time.
- A 5-minute sanitizing time period is scheduled as part of service delivery. This includes sanitizing of handrails and other surfaces outside of the pool, which the instructor or participants may come in contact with.
- Pool owners must remove all furniture and toys from the pool area if they are hosting other participants at their residence.
- Townhouse complexes and condominium buildings should also have all chairs and sitting areas removed so to reduce the odds of infection by contact. Door handles will not be disinfected by BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA Instructors.
- Should guardians from 2 DIFFERENT "bubbles" need to attend, physical distancing will be mandatory.
- One guardian needs to supervise the lesson at all times, facilities are not accessible at #BACKYARDSWIMSPOTS. Please prepare accordingly.
how long is each lesson? each session? can i book long term?

can i change instructors if me/my child is not connecting with my current instructor?
Absolutely. We will do our best to find a new instructor in your area, and offer a free trial lesson with the new instructor.
CAN I WATCH MY KIDS DURING THE LESSON?
- A guardian is required to be present for the duration of interaction with the instructor.
- Guardians are asked to "see but not be seen," to ensure proper focus is given between the instructor and the participant.
- A guardian may bring a folding chair, as no seating will be made available by the BACKYARDSWIMSPOT host.
- Please do not bring food or eat food at a BACKYARDSWIMSPOT.
- Washroom facilities will not be accessible at BACKYARDSWIMSPOTS.
- Should the guardian need to leave the instruction or viewing space, the instructor will be required to interrupt the lesson for the child to accompany the guardian.
- The length of the lesson will remain the same, and the guardian's time away from the pool will not be recuperated during that or another lesson. That means, everybody go pee before you go, remember to charge your phone and bring your own lawn chair!
I DON'T HAVE A POOL BUT KNOW SOMEONE WHO DOES - CAN I TAKE MY KIDS TO THEIR HOUSE FOR LESSONS?
Yes! Creating new spaces for aquatic instruction is one of our main goals.
For example:
A friend or relative who has access to a pool in a townhouse complex, can host aquatic instruction provided that:

A friend or relative who has access to a pool in a townhouse complex, can host aquatic instruction provided that:
- There is immediate, outdoor access to the pool.
- The pool space is sufficient to conduct instruction, taking into consideration other patrons in the pool to accommodate physical distancing.
- All BACKYARDSWIMSPOT safety requirements are met.
- A guardian of the registered child(ren) is present for the duration of interaction with the instructor.
DOES MY HOME INSURANCE COVER LOSSES DURING INSTRUCTION TIME? DO I NEED ADDITIONAL HOMEOWNERS' INSURANCE TO HOST AQUATIC INSTRUCTION AT MY HOME?
BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA holds a Commercial General Liability Insurance policy which covers incidents occurred during sanctioned BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA activities.
As above-ground pools are becoming increasingly common, the pool owner's responsibilities for the pool health and environmental safety remain the same as those of in-ground pool owner responsibilities as stated in their homeowner's insurance policy.
Check with your homeowners' insurance provider to see which requirements need to be met in order to operate an above-ground swimming pool at your residence.
If a swimming pool falls below established safety standards, it is the pool owner's responsibility to notify BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA immediately of the issue and to implement solutions for correcting the issues within a reasonable timeline.

WHAT ARE BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA COVID-19 SAFETY PLANS?
HOW DOES BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE POOLS' HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT?

- BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA Instructors are trained to evaluate and assess aquatic facility health and safety.
- If a BACKYARDSWIMSPOT reports poor chemical health, this pool will be unavailable for instruction until further notice. BACKYARDSWIMLESSONS.CA will provide an alternative location, based on availability.

CAN I BOOK AN INSTRUCTOR TO TEACH ME OR MY KIDS AT A PUBLIC POOL?
Yes you may, but not without difficulty, unfortunately.
During public swim times and registered drop-in swims, an instructor may meet you at a public pool for swim instruction.
However, we have found difficulty in securing time slots at municipal pools, to add family members to the system, and coordinating with instructor availability.
The cost of the instructor's entry fee is charged to the customer when you book at a public facility.
Please remember to include the Instructor to your "Family" or "Bubble" when scheduling a drop-in swim.
As an alternative, please join our #BACKYARDSWIMSPOT POST TO HOST | POST TO FIND group on Facebook, or contact us directly to register for our list of clients needing a space for aquatic instruction.
A BACKYARDSWIM.CA instructor can teach up to 2 parent & tot in a bubble, or up to 5 participants.
Guardians must be present for the duration of interaction between instructors and participants.
